Press release by the European Commission (EC) announcing the first ever (actual) image of a #BlackHole within the galaxy Messier 87.

The de-focused image of the black hole with a ring of fire resulting from the collision of material rotating towards the center of the black hole at speeds near the speed of light. The image was taken by an array of eight radio telescopes distributed across the Earth capable of taking images with that a telescope nearly the size of planet Earth could take. This array is the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT).
